Advanced FBC 8th Edition (2023) – Architectural Acoustic Requirements in the Code - Online - AIA #DL24AAR/FBC #:1282.0-Expires 5/10/27

Hours: 2 HSW/FBC

THIS IS AN ADVANCED COURSE

Introduction

This seminar provides a comprehensive overview of Florida Building Code (FBC) acoustical requirements, focusing on multi-family residences, hotels, and similar occupancies. Participants will gain an understanding of Sound Transmission Class (STC), Impact Insulation Class (IIC), and enhanced classroom acoustics as specified in sections 1207 and 1211 of the FBC.

Description

The course is divided into three parts:

Part 1: Covers laboratory and field rating systems for STC and IIC requirements, as well as ASTM testing standards and procedures.
Part 2: Focuses on designing and implementing acoustical systems, identifying potential pitfalls, and ensuring proper construction through Contract Documents and Construction Administration phase methods.
Part 3: Examines the new section 1211 on enhanced classroom acoustics, including compliance requirements, evaluation of building systems and finishes, and testing procedures during design and post-construction phases.
Participants will leave with actionable knowledge to address and prevent acoustical challenges in various building types.

Objective

1.Understand Florida Building Code Section 1207 requirements for STC and IIC ratings for building assemblies, as well as basic definitions and explanation of terms relating to required acoustic performance in buildings.
2. Implement architectural acoustic systems in the design and construction phases of a project where required in Section 1207 including systems, details, submittal and test report reviews, job site observation and post-construction verification testing.
3. Implement architectural acoustic systems in the design and construction phases of a project to meet the Section 1211 FBC requirements for Enhanced Acoustical Performance of Schools.
4. Understand field and laboratory test methods and analysis procedures that are performed to determine if acoustical assemblies and systems meet Section 1207 and 1211 building code requirements, including STC, IIC, Reverberation Time, and background noise levels.
