For AIA Members - What is AIA/CES
AIA/CES is a continuing education system developed by the AIA to emphasize and record participation in professional learning activities.
AIA/CES enables architects to keep current, master new knowledge and skills, plan for the future, and responsibly meet the role society entrusts to a professional. The program also allows members to fulfill a requirement for AIA membership and meet any state mandatory continuing education requirement.
For Florida licensed architects, the continuing education requirement deadline is Dec. 31, 2022. This means your continuing education hours must be obtained from Jan. 1, 2021, through Dec. 31, 2022, for the current biennium.
The deadline for license renewal for this biennium is Feb. 28, 2023.
The yearly deadline for AIA members is Dec. 31.
Starting with the February 28, 2015 licensure renewal deadline, and going forward, all continuing education credits must be obtained no later than December 31 in the year prior to the renewal deadline. The next renewal cycle deadline is February 28, 2023, for continuing education credits obtained from January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2022.
On Nov. 21, 2012, Rule 61G1-24, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C), outlining the continuing education hours (CEH) requirements changed from 20 to 24 hours. (22 hours in health, safety, and welfare-related courses and 2 hours in the Florida Building Code Advanced Course). Information regarding the requirements can be found in the FAC and in the Architecture Continuing Education Handbook, click here.
When an architect renews their license for the February 28, 2023 deadline, he/she will attest to completing 24 continuing education hours from January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2022.
The Board of Architecture and Interior Design (BOAID) no longer accepts optional self-directed study courses.
