The digital submittal process involves many connected components. Each municipality requires certain criteria based on their state's requirements, and it's our responsibility to adhere to these rules when using Bluebeam Revu to prepare our submittals and digitally sign our documents. This presentation and Q/A session intends to simplify this process and provide multiple avenues for signing PDFs, protecting our data, Third-Party Authentication, and complying with municipal standards.
We'll begin by learning how to use "Quick Flattening" and how the "Flatten Dialogue" works, along with "Unflattening". Then, we'll discuss "Third-Party Authentication" and why "Second-Party Authentication" isn't secure or accepted by municipalities. Afterwards, we'll explain the difference between a regular digital signature and how "Document Certification" can limit our security settings for signatures. After signing an individual PDF, we'll illustrate the nuanced differences between Batch Signatures and how to utilize them effectively. Lastly, we'll highlight a key feature within digitally signed documents called "Click to view this version" and how it protects our documents from subsequent markups and subtle changes.
Features that will be showcased:
1. Flattening for Compatibility
2. Third-Party Authentication
3. Signatures Vs Certifications
4. Batch Signature Nuances
5. Protecting our Submittals with "Click to view this version"
The submittal process can be tedious due to the strict rules that each municipality must adhere to. Some architects, engineers, and contractors are unfamiliar with the procedures that are necessary to successfully submit a project to a city for review. Likewise, most plan reviewers don’t have the necessary expertise to teach every client how to use their PDF program to digitally sign a document consistently. This presentation can "bridge the gap" between a city's understanding of their standards and the steps that each client of a municipality receiving these important files.
