Situated on the St. Lucie River in Stuart, the Cashel Estate is an example of the Florida “Colonial Manor.” The house was built in the 1922, during “The Gilded Age”, by architect Horace Trumbauer for energy industry magnate Martin Malone. Trumbauer was already famous for grand structures as the George W. Elkins Mansion and the George F. Tyler Mansion in Pennsylvania, the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He would go on to design the Chapel at Duke University
In addition to the 9,513-square-foot house, the estate includes a marina large enough to accommodate a 100-foot-yacht, a three-unit apartment building, and a guest cottage.
Cashel Estate at 3904 Old St. Lucie Boulevard in Stuart will be open to the public from March 6 through March 26 as The Children's Home Society's 2010 Designer Showcase House. The history of the home and information about the tours are available at www.chsdesignershowcase.org.
All AIATC Members are invited to the Preview Party to see the classical
architectural lines of Trumbauer interpreted by twenty-one of the area's interior
designers. Friday, March 5, 2010, 5:30 to 8 p.m. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. For
reservations call Jamie Adcock, 772-244-4020.
