Introduction
This course explores the different fenestration codes within the Florida Building Codes 8th Edition (2023), starting with a brief history of the Florida Building Codes and an overview of the Florida Building Commission's role.
Description
Participants will learn about the importance of opening protection, how it saves lives and reduces costs, and gain an in-depth understanding of testing methods and label requirements. The course will cover Wind-borne Debris provisions, related ASCE 7-22 maps, and all available code-compliant options, including their pros and cons. Attendees will also review key Building Code issues, product approval cautions, and energy compliance requirements. The session concludes with resources to stay informed on purchasing and installing fenestration products.
Objective
This course is intended to provide participants with a working knowledge of the requirements within the Florida Code system that need to be followed when choosing a window or door for either new construction or replacement. Upon completion of this course, the participant will learn that their choices of fenestration products are critical to the survival of that home either during a catastrophic event, or just everyday security protection.
