2027 Jacob Leadership Institute
JLI Leadership Program
An intellectually challenging, highly interactive leadership
experience designed for design professionals at every stage
of their careers.
Beginning in January 2027, participants will take part in a
six-month leadership journey built around thought-provoking
discussions, active participation and practical opportunities
to strengthen their leadership skills.

The JLI Experience
The JLI Leadership Program is designed to challenge and
empower design professionals at every level of skill and
experience, from a new college graduate to a seasoned
firm principal.
The program includes six heavily interactive training
sessions. Four sessions will be held in person and two
will be delivered virtually, providing flexibility and
inclusiveness while maintaining an engaging learning
environment.
Enrollment is limited to 16 participants to allow for
personalized attention and growth. A graduation ceremony
will be held during the AIA Florida Annual Convention
in Boca Raton in July 2027.
Honoring a Legacy of Leadership
Mickey Jacob, FAIA, Hon. FRAIC
The Jacob Leadership Institute honors Mickey Jacob, FAIA,
Hon. FRAIC, whose architectural career spans more than
40 years following his graduation from the University of
Detroit School of Architecture.
Throughout his career, Jacob has embodied the principles of
a Citizen Architect, combining professional leadership with
service to the AIA, his community and numerous charitable
organizations.
His AIA leadership includes service as AIA Florida President
from 2004–2005, AIA Florida/Caribbean Regional Director on
the AIA National Board of Directors from 2007–2009 and
AIA Vice President from 2009–2011.
He was elected the 2013 AIA President, becoming only the
second person from Florida to hold that position.

The curriculum is designed to help participants develop
confidence while identifying and strengthening their own
leadership abilities.

Commitment to the Program
Active student engagement is essential to the effectiveness
of the program. Attendance is mandatory for all participants.
Each participant and their sponsor must submit a signed
commitment letter demonstrating their commitment to completing
the program.
Application Process
Applicants must be AIA members.
Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee.
Individuals cannot be considered until the application
and all required supporting documents have been received
by AIA Florida staff.
No late applications will be accepted.
Tentative 2027 Training Schedule
Sessions will be held from 12–4 p.m. Eastern and will be
delivered either completely in person or completely virtually.
Hybrid training will not be available.
In-person session locations will be confirmed as quickly as
possible, with careful consideration given to participant
travel distances.

$900
Fifty percent of tuition, or $450, is due by December 18.
The remaining balance is due before the first training session.
