2027 Jacob Leadership Institute

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about the JLI experience, time commitment, program costs, participation requirements and application process.

The Jacob Leadership Institute is designed for professionals at every stage of leadership development. Below are answers to some of the most common questions from prospective participants.

What makes the Jacob Leadership Institute different than other leadership programs?

The curriculum emphasizes personal and professional leadership, developing skills that are applicable across all facets of life.

Instructor Bret Hood draws upon his 25-year leadership journey as a former FBI agent to provide an exploration of the science, psychology and ethics that underpin effective leadership.

What is the time commitment?

In addition to the four-hour monthly commitment for each of the six training sessions, students should allocate time for travel to attend the four in-person training sessions.

Every effort is made to select centrally located venues within Florida for participants' convenience.

Students may also be given homework assignments designed to enhance the learning experience. These assignments should require no more than two to three hours total throughout the training program.

What is the definition of “sponsor” for the commitment letter?

A sponsor is someone who supports your participation in the JLI training program.

Your sponsor may be your boss or supervisor, a firm principal, your local chapter, your spouse or significant other, or anyone who will encourage your commitment to the training.

If your local chapter is serving as your sponsor, any chapter officer may sign the commitment letter.

What is the cost of the program?

The 2027 program fee is $900.

Students are also responsible for any travel costs incurred to attend the in-person training sessions. Participants may consider carpooling with other students to help reduce travel expenses.

Food will be provided at each in-person training session.

What is the level of training?

Because the program focuses on developing a personal leadership style, individuals at all levels of leadership can benefit.

Participants may range from associate emerging professionals and young architects to seasoned principals who are already serving in leadership positions.

What is the deadline to apply?

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. Eastern on October 7, 2026.
