Introduction
This course covers what architects need to know about how to design for crime deterrence and security for multi-family residential housing.
Description
This presentation addresses life safety issues of fire, security, accessibility, and safety, including access control, lighting, security video systems, fire exits, and the process of crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED).
Objective
Learning Objective 1: Understand the design implications and requirements for compliance with this state law. Learning Objective 2: Discuss best practices for video security systems, lighting in parking lots and common area spaces, door locking systems with deadbolts, strike plates, hinges, and peepholes, and locking devices for windows and gates. Learning Objective 3: Familiarize architects on designing in the required security devices and measures, to reduce negligent security liability for owners and operators of multi-family residential properties, as described in FS 768.0701. Learning Objective 4: Give working examples of successful applications of the 7 requirements of the law on multi-family residential properties.
