"International Building Code Mixed Occupancies"

The Big Bend Chapter of the International Code Council and Building Officials Association of Florida, along with the Tallahassee Chapter of the American Institute of Architects would like to invite you to participate in a unique training event.

On Friday August 3, 2012 there will be a 6-hour continuing education seminar presented by the International Code Council on the 2009 International Building Code requirements for “Mixed Occupancies.” This course will include 6-AIA CEUs. Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be better able to:

· Define the concept for addressing mixed-occupancy buildings.
· Identify the three methods that are available for regulating mixed-occupancy buildings.
· Describe the relationship of occupancy classification, allowable height, allowable area, and occupancy    separation to mixed-occupancy buildings.
· Follow a seven-step process for applying the Accessory Occupancies provisions.
· Identify incidental accessory occupancies and understand how they differ from true mixed-occupancy conditions.
· Apply the separation and/or fire protection requirements for Incidental Accessory Occupancies.
· Follow a four-step process for applying the Non-separated Occupancies provisions.
· Follow a five-step process for applying the Separated Occupancies provisions.
· Apply the mixed-occupancy methods to a multi-story building.
· Evaluate the differences between the three methods, including the relative advantages and disadvantages for each method.

This course will benefit anyone involved in the Architectural design, installation and inspection fields. The 2009 IBC is the base code for the 2010 Florida Building Code. Space is limited to the first 80 registrants.

An additional 1-hour CEU course will also be offered (TBD) in conjunction with this training.

Cost: AIA or BOAF Members and FAMU Alumni: $80 if postmarked by July 17, $100 after July 17. All others: $125 if postmarked by July 17, $145 after July 17. Registrants will be accepted at the door pending availability.

Checks must be received/postmarked by July 17. Cancellations received prior to July 17 will be given a full refund if picking up check. A $5 deduction will be taken from checks that are requested to be returned via mail. Cancellations received after July 17 will not be refunded, but reservations can be transferred to someone else at no additional charge.
